The culture of fear

So..

If the Dow dropping 600 points is front page news (complete with the usual stock photos of floor traders looking all worried) ....

.... then shouldn't the Dow regaining most of that loss the very next day be front page news, too?

Q: Then why was't it?

A: Because the media thrives on fear.

I agree with both of you! And, with the anniversary of 9/11 coming up, this hype is likely to increase!

It's all true. The cable networks CNN, MSNBC, FOX are based on viewers for their news shows. To drag those viewers in, each day must be a doomsday emergency. After awhile, you can't help to start buying the crap. That's why we have all these foaming at the mouth Tea Partiers running around.

That is true, 8:30. When you look at the typical Tea Party supporter, the psychographic profile is easy to define.

Part of it is that they tend to be TV addicts, relying on the tube for their cultural and social experiences and definitions.

I've run across research supporting this observation; I shall seek to hunt it down and link it back on here.
